Management games and business simulations

Management games

Management games are widely used in training courses and team building to provide a rapid experience of a particular learning. They can be quick and simple or varying levels of length and sophistication.

Classic trust building games such as "The Prisoners' Dilemma" (the red blue game), negotiation games based on "balloon debates" and many games and exercises to stimulate creativity.

Games can be used on training courses, for corporate fun days, or as a session in a conference programme.

Business simulations

Business simulations range from simple paper exercises to sophisticated computer simulations that can be played across the Internet. They are likely to be bespoke or customised to reflect a particular business or industry scenario.

What they have in common is a means of representing the principles and processes of an industry or market. They represent developments over real time, e.g. each round representing a week, month, quarter or even a year, so that lessons can be learned from the cumulative impact of decisions taken earlier in the simulation.

Such games played over the Internet or an organisation's intranet allow international companies or organisations with staff at different locations to offer a lively training facility, to build relations between departments or to promote new ideas or products – without the need for travel.

Business simulations can be financially driven or can take a balanced scorecard approach.

On-line assessments

Our free on-line assessments offer a quick and easy way for you or your staff to check out characteristics as managers and directors. Custom assessments, including 180° and 360° feedback systems, administered over the Internet are also available for a fee.

Why play management "games"?

Classroom learning is just one of many methods to encourage learning and change. It is less suitable for people who prefer a more practical approach, and can rapidly lose impact on return to the work environment.

Properly designed management games serve to break the link with the workplace and entrenched thinking habits long enough for new behaviours and thinking styles to be tried. Once a new behaviour has been experienced, the manager is on the way to a change in behaviour.

Use of management games can encourage new, even novel, alternatives, coping mechanisms and models of thinking.

They cover everything, e.g. assertiveness, team building, running a business, persuasion and proposals.
