Murphy – a leadership and planning game

This activity was designed to highlight this interdependence, as well as to practise leadership and planning skills.

The team's task is to calculate and provide the top management of an Irish whiskey company with a vital sales figure. Each member has some of the necessary information but, unfortunately, Mr Murphy, the European Sales Manager, has disappeared with some of the key data. He's away on a business trip and it's a race against the clock to locate him and ask him to fax the missing information. In order to find Murphy and calculate the sales figure the team needs:

• All the team members' information
• A firm and organising leader
• A plan on how to proceed with the task
• The delegation of special tasks (following Murphy's journey on the map, calculating sales for different regions, etc)
• Good communication skills (listening, explaining, checking, understanding)

Training Objectives:

• To highlight the interdependent nature of teamwork
• To practise team planning
• To demonstrate the need for and practise team leadership skills
• To practise communication skills within a team
