Initially it was intended to be an introduction to the fundamentals of coaching, and it was based on the entry level Manager Coach module of the ASEC Coach Certification Program.

As I developed the programme it took on a life of its own.

Since it was not targeted at managers, and it was not an entry level programme for coaches, this gave me a new freedom in the design.

I asked myself, “What do I do when I coach?” “What is it that makes a natural coach?” “How can we best help people in their everyday lives?”

“What is it about coaching that helps people even when they are not formally coaching?”

Once we came up with the concept of “Invisible Coaching”, it all started to fall into place.

I focused on identity, sensitivity to language patterns and rapport.

The programme was designed to be experiential, though in practice we squeezed a lot of delivery into the two days as the main purpose was to create material for the video content.
Feedback was excellent, though more time for exercises would have been appreciated. The Brefi Group models of Sailing the Seven Seas and Coaching on a Credit Card™ were popular.

So, what next?

I have expanded the workbook very slightly and shall then open up the programme to run over three days, to be partnered with a second three days to complete “Invisible Leadership”.

We had not intended to run “Invisible Coaching” as an ongoing public workshop ourselves but in this, our first public event, we had delegates from Nigeria, Thailand, Italy and Sweden. There has been demand from those who could not attend and we are considering running it in London in the autumn.

The self study product will be released later in the year.

Next job is to produce a one day programme for use in-house by corporate clients based on Coaching on a Credit Card™.
