Ten steps to turning an I can't into an I can

I have had the pleasure of attending Sanjay Shah's Emotional Mastery Programme. Here is one of the exercises featured in the workbook.

This exercise uses the Release Technique. If you don't know it then check it out at http://www.releasetechnique.com/

1. Think of an "I can't" in relation to ........ e.g. I can't let go.
   
   
2. Rephrase this as an "I won't". e.g. I won't let go.
   
   
3. Say it out loud.
   
   
4. Look to see what's behind the "I won't". Is it fear or is it resistance?
   
   
5. Ask "How big is the fear/resistance on a 1 - 10 scale?"
   
   
6. Decide that you are in charge and ask: "Can I get bigger than the fear/resistance?"
   Decide to let go of the fear/resistance. Keep on doing so until the fear/resistance is at zero.
   
   
7. Think about your "I can't ..." statement and check whether you have any sense of wanting approval, wanting control or wanting safety/security. Whatever comes up, just let it go. Ask "Could I let it go?" Ask "If in any way it could be possible for me to let it go, would I?" And if yes, ask "When?"
   
   
8. Rephrase the "I can't" as an "I can". e.g. I can let go.
   
   
9. Ask "What percentage am I OK with ...?" Keep releasing until you get yourself up to being 100% OK. e.g.What percentage am I OK with letting go?"
   
   
10. Ask "What percentage am I OK with not ....?" e.g. What percentage am I not OK with letting go?" Keep releasing until you get yourself up to being 100% OK.
