Taking a break
It’s August tomorrow and Brefi Group closes to the public. Potentially it is the most productive month of the year as it is a time for consolidating ideas and developing new resources. With the pressure removed and different environments, magic can happen.
Many years ago I was conducting an Investors In People programme at the tiny Rheidol Valley hydro-electric station. As we walked along the valley, one of the managers expressed his surprise at the impact of a changed environment. Recently, instead of holding an all day management meeting they had spent the morning walking in a nature reserve; in the afternoon they had then had an extremely creative and productive meeting!
In the early 1970s during a coal miners strike Britain had been forced onto a three day week. Afterwards it was claimed that the country’s productivity had shot up over that period. Having lauded the benefits of sometimes doing nothing, this week’s coaching notes comprise some suggestions of how to get more things done. Tips from readers on this perennial subject would be welcome on the blog.
So, my message in this final CorporateCoach of July is to recognise and celebrate the value of rest and recreation.
I look forward to returning in September with further exciting announcements. To those of you who will also be taking a holiday I wish you well. In the meantime, why not sign up for the Enneagram course now. It starts right at the beginning of September.
