I have recently been listening to some programmes to celebrate 50 years of a radio programme for children, 'Listen with Mother'.
Several excerpts from programmes were played and I noticed that in every case they were very descriptive. The story teller described the situation in rich language so that the young child could imagine and relate to it. This was in strong contrast to the language normally used on the radio and in business.
It reminded me of an exercise we did when I attended a module of Sue Knight's business practitioner many years a go.
I have looked up NLP at Work and find a chapter on using enriched language. Further, I had already chosen a submission from Romilla Ready that describes how NLP identifies different communication patterns representing the five senses; see today's coaching notes.
Here is a summary form Sue Knight's book: -
"Enriched communication is the essence of motivation and commitment. Appeal to the eyes, ears, and feelings of your listeners and you will have their understanding and their attention. Inspirational leaders throughout history have instinctively had the ability to capture the hearts and minds of their audience. By understanding the components of enriched language, you too can inspire and delight your listeners. Bring your business meetings and presentations alive with your skilled use of language."
