I have been much struck by this week's Letter to the Editor from Rob Smith. I remember a personal development tape that took the same theme. If you must worry, then find somebody on the minimum wage and pay them to sit in a corner and do it for you! Then get on with your life.
I quote a well known prayer of my mother's: -
God grant me the courage to change the things I can change;
the serenity to accept those I cannot change;
and the wisdom to know the difference.
One of the main processes that I use when coaching is setting well formed outcomes. The first requirement is that the outcome is phrased in the positive.
The second is: "Is the achievement of this outcome within your control?
What do you need to achieve it?"
This can be really powerful when used during a meeting. How many times does a group spend time discussing things that it cannot affect?
Take note of Rob's advice and spend your life changing what you can.
