Leadership coaching for teams and individuals in organisations
Leadership and management – what's the difference?
Management development, leadership development. Are you a manager, a leader – or both?
If management is about getting things done, then leadership is
about getting others to do things. We know that great leaders can motive whole populations, armies
or companies. How do they do it? How could you achieve more through others? And are there other styles than the charismatic leader at the front?

This is what was said long ago: -
Leaders are best when people scarcely know they exist
Not so good when people obey and acclaim them
Worst when people despise them.
Fail to honour people, they fail to honour you.
But of good leaders, who talk little,
when their work is done, task fulfilled,
people will say: "We have done this ourselves!"
Verse 17 Tao Te ching

Leadership
Increasingly, the modern world requires leadership, rather than (just) management. The world is
changing too quickly for us to rely on employees doing what they are told or following procedures.
There may be nobody around to tell them what to do and the procedures may be out of date. Indeed,
the particular circumstances might never have arisen before.
So we need leaders who can create a context in which they can empower their staff to make
their own 'intelligent' decisions. Management skills of leaders now include coaching, mentoring,
delegation, appraisal.
Leadership takes a higher form, including setting the vision, mission and values of an organisation.
Leadership is about culture as well as inspiration.
Congruence
We believe that the key to leadership development is personal congruence. A seamless
relationship between the individual and the cause, and a consistent behaviour regardless of who
or what is involved. Discovering a style that is right for you - and appropriate for the context.
Coaching is the ideal means to this higher end.
Management
Management can be learned. But it is a practical skill. Learning requires application. It also
depends on beliefs and understanding of processes. Whatever you learn in theory, doesn't real learning
take place on the job? And that is where a coach can guide, question and support.
Coaching can focus on agreed day to day objectives. Or it can focus on specific competencies.
