Walks in the Brecon Beacons
Pontneddfechan, Porth yr Ogof and Sgwyd Eira
A Welsh Classic exploring waterfall country where limestone, sandstone and millstone grit converge to
create spectacular viewing in mainly deciduous woodlands. Walk behind Sgwyd Eira and see the largest
caving entrance in Wales.
14km, allow 4 to 6 hours, river tracks slippery and steep in places.
Llanthony Priory, Capel y Ffin, Cwmyoy and the Hatterall Ridge
An energetic long walk with steep ascents and descents (5) an airy open ridge, historical interest
and great views.
8 hours for fit walkers, 25km, rough tracks. A variety of accommodation available to
make into a two dayer at a more leisurely pace.
Talybont Reservoir Circuit
Great ridge walking providing "fan"tastic views throughout. Choose a good visibility day and enjoy some
of the finest scenery the Beacons has to offer.
8 hours, 24km, ridge and moorland tracks, some steep ascents and descents.
Cwm Haffes, Fan Hir and Llyn y Fan Fawr
In the wild Carmarthen Fans following two lively rivers as they form pools, waterfalls and cascades,
wild moorland and a great ridge to a glacial lake, ending in a good pub for dinner.
7 hours, 15km, some rough walking and trackless moorland.
Pen y Fan ridge walk
A linear walk from Storey Arms to Talybont reservoir covering the best of the Central Beacons and its
highest point.
Steep ascents and descents, 6 to 8 hours, 14 km.
Carreg Cennen to Tafarn y Garreg
A long linear walk through the remote and wild Western Beacons and the Fan Hir ridge.
Great views to the Central and Eastern Beacons.
10 to 12 hours, 25 miles – a tough one.
Pontsticill to Llangynider
A linear walk with great views of the Central Beacons and following part of Sarn Helen the
old Roman road.
6 to 8 hours, 12km, mud and rough sections.
Dan yr Ogof to Ystradfellte
A linear walk across open moors and some remote limestone crags and peaks.
12km, 6 to 8 hours. Mud and rough tracks.
Dan yr Ogof to Storey Arms
Another linear walk covering four Beacons peaks, Fans Gyhirch, Nedd, Dringarth and Fawr. Remote and far
from the hustle of Pen y Fan.
7 hours, 12km. Rough tracks, mud and bogs.
