Some people are natural coaches, and can be very effective without any training at all. Natural coaches seem always to get the best out of people. How do they do it? What is the key to their success?
Some people choose to undertake an intensive program of training in order to make coaching a career.
But what about everybody else?
Then, being able to think and act like a natural coach could significantly enrich your own life, as well as the lives of others.
Having taught managers and coaches in the UK, Europe, Middle East and Asia, I have become increasingly concerned to identify what managers actually need to know about coaching.
When I have asked myself how I coach, I realise that I don't use the techniques that are regularly taught. I am driven by curiosity and a desire for the other person to learn.
Unless you wish to train as a professional coach, it is much more important to adopt the right mindset so that you think and behave like a natural coach, rather than to learn lots of technique.
The most subtle and effective coaching is invisible; the person being coached by a manager or parent should not be conscious of being coached – just more aware of issues and options, more open to change.
The most effective leadership is also subtle; it occurs when people act consistently in accord with clear and relevant values. This requires self knowledge and a personal sense of purpose.
As with coaching, leadership is not about skills; it is about congruence.
The most inspiring leaders are comfortable within themselves and congruent with their beliefs.
Leadership and coaching are relevant anywhere that influence is needed - whether it be in a business, home or social environment.

Invisible Coaching® and Inspiring Leadership are two new programs that take a brand new approach to developing leaders.
They each comprise three one-day workshops; they are available in one, two or three day modules, or as an intensive five day program. They are interactive, with plenty of opportunities for participants to learn by coaching each other.
Coaching and leadership are both behaviours, and behaviours can be taught. But what distinguishes a successful coach or leader comes from within. It is their beliefs, their values, and their emotional baggage that ultimately affect their success.
Invisible Coaching® and Inspiring Leadership address these three key issues, as well as introducing simple, but powerful, processes.
Coaching on a credit card® is based around the question "What would be the most useful question for me to ask you now?" When the client tells you, then you ask it. As simple as that! It is very powerful and teaches the important lesson that it is the client, not the coach, who knows what is needed. The coach just provides the structure.

Coaching on an Credit Card® is a free-standing workshop that explores the fundamentals of coaching using a simple and powerful six step process that can be carried in a wallet or purse.
Sailing the Seven Seas™ puts the skills of an effective coach into the context of a simple coaching model that introduces the seven supporting principles behind effective coaching.
This workshop focuses on rapport building skills and introduces a comprehensive model of coaching, involving beliefs, models and techniques that are particularly powerful in terms of improving communication and achieving individual and corporate change.
At the end of the three coaching workshops, participants will have a deep understanding and appreciation of the power and application of coaching, together with a set of inter-personal skills that can add tremendous value in their professional and personal lives.
They will always know just the right questions to help someone, and will notice that life gets easier, as they become more effective with less stress.
The Inspiring Leadership program is designed to help individuals gain a deeper insight into their personality, natural talent and communication style.
It provides a structure for creating or refining a formal vision, mission and values proposition that will generate charisma and form the foundation for future behaviour and choices.
Understanding self then leads to understanding others and how to interact with them.
Inspiring Leadership is designed to follow and complement the Invisible Coaching workshops but can also form a free standing program in its own right.

In addition, participants are challenged to take back their power and commit to raising their game to transform themselves, others and society.
These workshops are suitable for any individual with responsibility for the performance of others. In particular, they are designed for: -
This workshop starts with an introduction to the mind, the aspects of the inner context in which we all operate, and ends with creating a comprehensive personal mission statement that can be used as the benchmark for future decisions and achievements.
In this workshop we introduce personality types and explore the various environments in which participants operate. We show them how to design a strategy for building more positive support networks and leveraging talents through collaboration.
In this final workshop participants learn about change; both how to move themselves towards their chosen goals and full potential, and how to inspire others and lead high performing teams. They create, an action plan in which they commit to taking back their power and raising their game to transform themselves and others, and leave a worthwhile legacy.
At the end of the program, participants will have a deep understanding of themselves, what they want in life and how to influence and inspire others. They will be seen to act consistently and authentically, and with purpose.
On completion of both the Invisible Coaching and Inspiring Leadership programs, each individual will have addressed their beliefs, their values, and their emotional baggage. They will have acquired a high level of self knowledge and will have resolved personal issues and 'hot buttons' that could interfere in relationships and undermine their competence as either coach or leader.
If they so choose, graduates of these programs will now be ready to progress towards a career as a professional coach.
The four module ASEC Coach Certification Program, over a period of 18 months or more, is designed to prepare candidates for a career as a successful executive coach to senior executives and for a professional qualification with the International Association of Coaching.
The four modules are: Practitioner Coach, Personal Coach, Corporate Coach and Professional Coach.
The curriculum combines instruction, e-learning, self study and live coaching exercises. Certification requires completion of workplace exercises. The teaching methodology is comfortably designed with the option of classes held over weekends to facilitate easy access for office-goers.
From time to time additional specialist workshops will be arranged for existing coaches and trainees to supplement their core coaching skills.
ASEC programs are delivered under licence by partner organizations across Asia, Africa and the Middle East. If you are a coaching or training organization, or an events organizer, who would like to add coach training programs to your portfolio – or you would like a licence to deliver them within your own organization – we would like to hear from you.
We supply workbooks, support material and marketing for both in-house training and open courses. We can supply trainers or train your own people to deliver and support these programs.
We can also arrange for the programs to be expanded and lead to an undergraduate or postgraduate certificate or diploma with Coventry University.
